Home Theatre PC

What is an ‘htpc’?

HTPC stands for ‘home theatre personal computer’ or ‘home theatre pc’. Essentially it combines the benefits of computers and television into one integrated system. Having the TV connected to the computer provides a way to record digital television directly onto their computer when they are unable to view it at the regular time. With htpc software, this becomes easy and free. Having the computer connected to the TV also has its advantages. Internet television and streaming television can be played from the computer on a much larger monitor, the TV, which can support high-definition at better qualities than the average pc monitor. It also connects the computer to a substantially better sound system. An htpc allows you to make slideshows, presentations, surf the web, and any other computer task all from the comfort of the couch and on a larger display. With a wireless mouse, keyboard, and remote you don’t even have to come close to your computer.

Htpc requirements?

The average computer is not set up to be an htpc. A good connection between a pc and television requires certain htpc hardware and software. Some of the necessary parts include: an htpc case which houses all the hardware, capture cards (possibly a TV Tuner Card – visit www.WatchingTVinyourPC.com for more info), a decent processor, adequate video card and sound card, a hard drive, and RAM memory. There are many sites devoted entirely to constructing a good htpc from the necessary parts, but it is also possible to upgrade your current pc to fit the requirements of an htpc.
