Along with Internet radio, Internet television (ITV) is a growing field. Also called web television, it is the ability to watch certain television stations online. By accessing certain websites or using various programs it is possible to many live Internet television broadcasts free and legally. Another use of Internet television especially used by news sites is allowing high-demand content or extra information to be viewed online at any time using streaming video technology. Online television services also include VOD (video on demand) which allows users to pay for certain content upfront, such as a certain sports game or movie title.

 

Internet television lends itself especially to htpc’s, allowing the content from the Internet to be displayed on a high quality, large display with better sound. An htpc takes nothing away from the regular television but adds to it, allowing viewing of otherwise inaccessible online content over the TV.
